Why does iOS 14.6 cause huge battery drain and overheating

Hi, everyone I am here for Affiliate priceless and today Apple released iOS 14.6, our C2 or release candidate too. This is available to developers and soon to public beta testers. Usually by the time you're reading this blog post and they don't generally release candidate 2 unless they find a major issue with the main release candidate release candidates, generally the version that's going to be released to the public.

iOS 14.6 cause huge battery drain and overheating

So we'll talk about when to expect that a little bit. Later on. And this came in at a fairly small 156.3. Megabytes. That's on my iPhone, 12 pro max. I also have it on the iPhone 11 in iPhone seven. Now it was about 150 megabytes on each of these devices. So fairly small, and also they released iPad OS 14.6 RC2. And I have that on the 12.9 inch iPad pro from 2020. So all of those are out now. To developers. And if you're wondering where the new. 2021 IPad pro and one is it's here, I'll have a video on that a little bit later. So I'm working on that, but it's not on the beta yet. Now, as far as the build number, let's go ahead and take a look at that. And then we'll talk about what's new. So we'll go to settings and then we'll go to general than about, as you can see, the build number is 18F72, and.

This particular build is not a huge step up from the previous versions. And if you're already on iOS. 14.7 Beta one that came out the other day, you can see it's available here. If you're a beta tester, you won't be able to downgrade to 14.6 RC 2 without a computer. So you can't do it through a software update. You would need a computer. So there's no way to go back. So if you're curious about that and you wanted to try it out, you would need a computer. You can update to 14.7, though, if you wanted to now in. In this particular update, there are no modem updates. So if you're having. Issues switching between 4g and 5g or something else, there's nothing there as far as that goes. And as far as new features are concerned, well, there's nothing specific that apple has mentioned whatsoever.

This is going to be a bug fix, where they address issues. And I think what they're probably fixing is things that people were having issues with. CarPlay, for example, you'd plug this into a car. If you had CarPlay tap on the apple music icon, and for many people, it would just crash. It just wouldn't work at all. So people were having that issue. I can't say whether or not that's addressed a hundred percent as it takes a bunch of different cars to know for sure, as well.

Apple released iOS 14.6, our C2

Green tint, hopefully, they're addressing all of these issues, but generally, they will not push out a release candidate without. Actually having something major to fix. And it's sort of telling that they didn't push it out for say apple watch and T V O S for example, or Makola. So there's something specific in here. Now apple showed off the other day, all the accessibility features coming to this, along with the apple watch with gestures, but those will be coming in a later update. So those will be available. And one feature I missed in iOS 14.7 beta one, which will be coming later on is under the home.

If you long-press on a home pod. So if we go home here and I long-press on a home pod, scroll down, generally, you have your alarms. Once HomePod OS 7.1 comes out. So you'll have that option or HomePod OS 14.7. Rather you'll have that option and you'll be able to use it.

However, there's nothing new that apple is stating about iOS 14.6 release candidate too. So no new bug fixes that we know of. We'll just have to wait and see. However. It did install very quickly and the phones were not warm after installing. It is just like iOS 14.7 beta one. When I installed that the phone was not hot, the phone was not hot after installing 14.6, it seems like maybe they found it. Better power or thermal management with. This update is to sort of keeping the power within reach that it doesn't make the phone too hot when it's actually pushing it. So nothing new there, as far as that goes. Now I wanted to give you a battery update on this as well. So we'll go to settings.

We'll go back to the battery, go to battery health and you'll see, I'm still at 100%. This is my main phone. Since it came out, I charge it every single night on a fast charger, a MagSafe charger. So nothing different there. So far, we take a look at the last 10 days yesterday. I had two hours and 44 minutes of screen on time at three hours and 39 minutes of screen off time and used about 40% of my battery, depending on the day, I'm getting about eight to 10 hours of screen on time based on if I used it up to one hundred percent of its battery capacity. So that's pretty good. Many people are saying iOS 14.7 is actually quite a bit better. So with battery life, it looks like Apple's working on that as well as performance since performance seems to be quite good, even on older phones. So the iPhone seven, for example, performance is good and scrolling and things like that are good. I'll show you the benchmarks in just a moment, but if we scroll through, you'll see it's nice and fast, nice and smooth after it just loaded.

I think they're fixing the performance issues with this and that referenced by geek bench. But first, let's take a look at the smoothness of the iPad and its battery. So on the iPad, it's been very smooth, as I've said before, and my battery life has still not improved with the 14.6 release candidate one. So if we take a look at the last few days, it was last charged, install this update to 53%, 40 minutes ago, as you can see up there, and I'm getting about five hours of screen on time with normal use with this.

So it's just not great. Hopefully, it's fixed with this update or maybe 14.7, but I'll be using that other iPad as well. So we'll see maybe if it's something specific to this and then I can wipe that and start over. As far as the benchmarks are concerned, let's go over to the geek bench. And you'll see, I scored 1,594. For single-core, 4,134 for multi-core. And you'll see, that was today. If we go back to the history here and go down to the last time, it's actually a bit of an improvement. So it's a little bit higher for a single core. And multi-core only two points higher for single-core and about 70 or so points or higher for multi-core. So pretty good there. As far as all of these devices, I did run geek bench right after this. So that's good news that it's actually improved already, just after installing it. We'll go over to the geek bench.

There we go. And again, on the iPad. So on the left, I have the iPad Pro 12.9 from 2020 iPhone seven then the iPhone 11, and then the iPhone 12 pro max. And again, this just gives you a general idea. I think you will see an improvement though, and it will get better in the future. Now, as far as if you should install it. Well, I would say if you're on RC one, absolutely install it. If you're on 14.7 betas one, I would just hold off and continue to beta test that version. So I would just wait, definitely install it. If you're already on RC. One, for example, since this will be the version they released to the public, I've never seen an RC three before. It's completely possible. We could have another one next. Week, but based on some features, they announced earlier in this week. With accessibility and sign language, for example, and new watch bands for pride, those will be coming out on the 25th. So I actually expect this on the 25th, because if you go into the watch app, there are actually bands in the face gallery. Once it loads here, there we go.

There are new bands for pride woven, for example. So because of that, those bands come out on the 25th. It makes sense that we'll have it either on the 24th or 25th to be ready for that. So I would expect iOS 14.6 to release to the public by that time. So there's nothing else really in this, the major. Feature changes will be shown on June 7th at WWDC with iOS 15, and then we'll have betas for that along with betas for iOS 14 until September when we normally have the release of iOS 15 or whatever the next versions are. So look for that. That's what I'm looking for most forward. To, but nothing huge in this update that I've found so far.

It seems like it's just a minor bug fix. Hopefully, it fixes issues with CarPlay's green tint. Some people were having some issues with music, for example, and more, but let me know if it's fixed any of those issues for you in the comments below as I haven't personally experienced them. But I'd love to hear from you there as well. If you'd like to get your hands on this background, I'll just link it to a description like I or I normally do. And if you enjoyed the article, please give it a like as a follower. Thanks for reading.
